Janine O’Rourke

Coordinator

Personal message: All students have an innate desire to belong and feel valued in a safe and nurturing environment, in which they can grow to fulfill their potential.

Areas of responsibility: As Stage 2 coordinator, Janine works closely with the Years 3 and 4 teachers and their students. This close working relationship promotes ideas, efficiency and wellbeing among the school community.

Professional experience: Janine has a long association with St Kevin’s over 25 years in numerous capacities from REC through to part time positions. Prior to that, she worked as a coordinator at All Saints Liverpool and St Vincent’s Ashfield.

Her responsibilities have included liaising between the parish priest and school, overseeing the religious dimension and curriculum of the school.

She has worked in developing the capacity of teachers in the area of Mathematics, through various programs fostered by SCS, including the Reading and Mathematics Program (RAMP) and is currently leading the Mathematical Expertise and Excellence Program (MEE). Resourcing teachers to successfully implement teaching of Mathematics is part of this role.

As an experienced teacher, Janine has mentored early teachers and supervised pre teachers over the years to develop quality teaching practice.She also supervises colleagues at the beginning of their careers through formal teacher accreditation processes.

Qualifications: 

  • Graduate Diploma in Educational Studies -Computer Education (Sydney University)
  • Bachelor of Arts
  • Diploma of Education- Early Childhood (Macquarie University)

Professional interests: 

  • Curriculum development in Mathematics and English.
  • To engage students as partners in their learning which is relevant and interesting.
  • Work alongside the St Kevin’s parent community on social justice outreach programs.
